Shalimar Cologne, the return of a Guerlain legend
While perfume brands are numerous today, some of them are icons. As such, Guerlain is a brand that is an integral part of our French heritage. It has shone in the middle of the luxury world since the 19th century. Thus, his path has been dotted with multiple prestigious creations. As an example, Shalimar is considered to be one of its greatest perfumes. Born in 1925, he never stops talking about him. This is how Guerlain decided to reinterpret it in a fresher version. Focus on the new Shalimar Cologne.
Shalimar Cologne, a fragrance from a love story
If Shalimar’s fame is impressive, its history only becomes more beautiful when we know its origins. This perfume was created in the 1920s by the cult Jacques Guerlain. This unusual character has always devoted a real fascination to India. Also, it is in the heart of this country that he found the inspiration to make this unusual perfume. He was inspired by one of the most famous love stories in this country. This plunges us into the heart of the 17th century, when Emperor Shah Jahan reigned over the country.
This one had several wives but his favorite was by far Mumtaz Mahal. Ready for any follies to satisfy her, he built, under his orders, magnificent gardens called the gardens of Shalimar. Moreover, for the record, know that the word “Shalimar” means in Sanskrit, the local language, “temple of love”. Thus, it is in this place that the lovers lived their idyll. When Mumtaz Mahal died, the emperor, devastated by grief, had the most beautiful mausoleum built in this symbolic place. Today it is famous all over the world. This is the Taj Mahal. It is therefore from this iconic place in India and this history full of feelings that the Shalimar perfume comes from. Strong in emotions, this one knew how to cross the ages and now has a worthy successor.
The new freshness of Guerlain perfume
This time, to succeed this monument of perfumery, the Guerlain house has chosen to work on the theme of freshness and luminosity. What is more, Shalimar Cologne appears to be a modernized version of its predecessor. The whole was worked by the talented Thierry Wasser, official perfumer of the Guerlain house but also creator recognized worldwide for his unparalleled know-how. He chose to transform the madness of an extraordinary love into a more modern and airy creation. Shalimar Cologne appears to be an amber and sparkling juice. This opens initially with bright and energizing citrus flavors.
Shalimar Cologne combines bergamot, lemon and grapefruit. Then, all the elegance of the Shalimar collection takes over via a floral heart. This brings together jasmine, rose and freesia. Finally, this luminous interpretation gradually gives way to a sweeter and sweeter vanilla. This envelops the powdery nobility of the iris while the white musks end up sublimating this highly prestigious composition.
Thierry Wasser is revisiting Guerlain’s legendary feminine perfume for this summer to create a resolutely modern fragrance following on from the classic Shalimar perfume.
Timeless perfume has been acclaimed for more than 90 years by women from all over the world, it was created in the 1920s by Jacques Guerlain and is presented in a bottle signed Raymond Guerlain manufactured by the Cristalleries de Baccarat. Jacques Guerlain was inspired by Mumtaz Mahal the woman for whom the Taj Mahal was built symbol of the love of her husband the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan. Who would never allow himself to give him a majestic gift made him build a garden in Lahore (Pakistan) which named it the Garden of Shalimar.
