N ° 5 L’Eau de Chanel, the return of a perfume legend

There are perfumes that we never tire of rediscovering as they create so much fascination. So, if Chanel were to shine only through a single fragrance, it’s a safe bet that it would be the iconic N ° 5. When Gabrielle Chanel made this perfume, she explained: “I want to create an inimitable perfume, a perfume like never before, a woman’s perfume, with a woman’s scent. This is how it gave birth to one of the greatest juices on the planet. Today, almost 100 years after the creation of this legend, Chanel has decided to reclaim it. Focus on the new N ° 5 L’Eau de Chanel.

Chanel’s new floral freshness

Although this new fragrance is called Eau, don’t get me wrong, it is not a cologne. Likewise, N ° 5 L’Eau does not appear to be a watered-down version of the original by Chanel. It is indeed an olfactory creation in its own right, bringing a breath of modernity to this icon of perfumery. This one has been carved with subtlety, making freshness its main spearhead. In addition, its creator decided with him to favor the scent of aldehydes to that of citrus fruits of the past. Likewise, the somewhat old-fashioned trail of Chanel N ° 5 appears less powdery than before. The ylang-ylang, meanwhile, always brings here its share of exoticism but wants to be more vegetal than before. Likewise, vanilla has also been reduced. Thus, N ° 5 L’Eau seems to respect the prestigious heritage of Chanel while reinventing itself. It is more transparent than before and portrays to us the image of a more free and carefree woman. Likewise, N ° 5 L’Eau turns out to be an excellent summer fragrance. It is like sunny water, a kind of second skin. Like a whisper, it creates a thrill from its first breath. The rose is worked there with modernity and the whole looks like an enormous velvety bouquet. Finally, the whole ends with darker notes of vetiver and cedar, while N ° 5 L’Eau is coated in cottony musk. A perfume made by Olivier Polge

Revisiting the iconic Chanel N ° 5 has become an exercise in customary style within the brand. Thus, each of the house’s perfumers was faced with this challenge. It is therefore always a question of keeping the initial formula of this perfume while adding its own style. The challenge is to transform N ° 5 to bring it into line with its time, but without distorting it. Thus, like all Chanel perfumers, it was the turn of the talented Olivier Polge to create his version. Son of the iconic Jacques Polge, he succeeded his father to occupy the prestigious position of exclusive nose of Chanel. Far from being boosted, the latter is considered by his peers as a true creative genius. He already has many awards in the perfume industry and is often described as a sensitive man, daring and discreet. It is therefore all his personality that he transmits to us in the very last N ° 5 L’Eau.

A wind of novelty for the iconic Chanel N ° 5

Since its creation in 1921, the legendary Chanel N ° 5 has never ceased to be talked about. Indeed, it has been perfuming women all over the world for almost 100 years. Its longevity is simply exemplary. However, in recent years, Chanel has suffered a decline in sales. In addition, the distribution of Chanel N ° 5 fell by 4.9% in France in 2015. Likewise, globally, it was dethroned by La Vie est Belle de Lancôme. It is therefore difficult for the pill to pass within the Chanel brand. However, the brand has decided to react and should very soon launch an adaptation of the iconic Chanel N ° 5.

The next Chanel N ° 5

This reinterpretation of Chanel N ° 5 should thus see the light of day by September 2016. This new perfume then targets 15-30 year olds, otherwise known as “Millennials”. The latter are also a very popular target for marketers. Indeed, they tend to consume a lot. Still, it seems that women in this age group are not clearly sensitive to the charm of Chanel N ° 5. This fragrance is, for most of them, considered too “madam”. The new nose of the house, the famous perfumer Olivier Polge, has therefore been working on this elaboration since he was hired in the Chanel workshops in 2013. If little information has filtered out for the moment, we know however that this next perfume will be less heady than its predecessor and therefore more commercial. Likewise, if we do not yet know the name of her muse, Chanel has announced that she would not hesitate to allocate a normally annual communication budget for the release of this new Chanel N ° 5. In this case, it will not be less than 10 million euros that will be spent in terms of marketing between September and December 2016. In other words, do not be worried, you should not miss it of this already cult launch.

The original from Chanel N ° 5

Also, it’s a safe bet that this new juice will not lack personality. Indeed, even if it should be less strongly dosed than its elder, it must respect the soul of its predecessor. However, Chanel N ° 5 is known to be a unique concentrate of aldehydes. In addition, when it was released, Coco Chanel wanted to create a new, inimitable and incomparable perfume. The idea is not to denature this initial desire but to dust it off to bring it up to date. When Chanel N ° 5 was born, Gabriel Chanel then declared: “I want to create an inimitable perfume, a perfume unlike any other, a woman’s perfume, with a woman’s scent. She who believed in the signs of fate then decided to give her perfume the name of her lucky number. Also, if we are to believe its longevity, it is clear that his intuition was right. Hopefully the same will be true for the next juice from the house of Chanel.
